Cultural preservation, protection, and promotion through dance.
PACxSTAR stands as a new Pasifika Dance Competition curated by Natano Melvin Le'avasa. This initiative stems from recognition of the invaluable role dance competitions play in the education of our communities about their cultures.
The competition is designed to preserve our traditional values through the art of dance, safeguard cultural elements, and champion the promotion of Polynesian culture.
Recognizing the impact dance have on engaging our people in cultural heritage, PACxSTAR provides a platform for fostering health, well-being, and physical activity beyond the realms of recreation and sports. Natano, a New Zealand-born Samoan, draws from his personal experiences with traditional dancing at events such as the Pasifika Festival, ASB Polyfest, and numerous family events where dancing is a common feature.
His motivation for establishing PACxSTAR crystallized during his journey toward a doctorate in Indigenous development. Through this academic pursuit, Natano identified the need for a competitive environment to instill a deep sense of cultural heritage and underscore the importance of preserving our Pasifika knowledge and stories.
In essence, PACxSTAR, crafted by Natano Melvin Le'avasa, serves as a vital conduit for the celebration Pasifika culture.
